Ok, despite my boycott, I do have the finale turned on this evening in the background. Mostly because there's nothing else on, and secondly, because Chris is not home yet and if I hop in bed and fall asleep he'll surely wake me. Thirdly, I've started to cough. A dry, croupy cough. Rather incessantly, since, oh...7:30pm or 8:00? I can't figure out if it's the 'cold' that was coming on/affecting me end of last week/weekend (which, btw, I thought was practically gone by today), or, if it's just from the smoke (weekly Mummy night/visit at Mom's tonight -despite her refraining from lighting one til after I left). It's exhausting and my chest hurts. Blah!
So yeah, enough of my complaining. A few points, for old times sake:
- so it's now a showdown between the 'best' country performer. I could care less which one of them takes the crown, or sequined cowboy hat, as it were. They're both talented (the majority of the top 10 were), just, not my thang, I guess.
-I do enjoy the finale shows, as they are chalk-full of stars joining the Idols on their songs. I missed the start, and really just started paying attention now, and there's only about a half hour left, but I've come to realize that...
-I really do heart Tom Jones.
-I really, really don't like Beyonce. At all. Not even a little bit. Nope.
-Carrie's legs are phenomenal. I'm like, lusting after her legs. I wish I had her legs. I think I might serve myself up a bowl of ice cream to soothe my wounded self for knowing just how far from her legs that my legs actually are. Plus, it oughta help my throat, right?
-I'm glad I didn't spend money on the U2 tickets for the Magnetic 360 Tour; I just don't like them enough. Who was the guy singing with them, anyway? (yeah, I really stopped watching after my boycott).
-I enjoy Steve Tyler a lot, and I think he's been a fair & decent judge. The best quote of the season (told to me by my mama, as quoted by Steve: "...so we'll f*&k the duck and see what comes out" - if anyone knows which contestant he was referring to, feel free to comment).
-Scotty can part his hair on the side as severely as he wants to, but he'll still look like the MAD guy.
-The "Idol" song SUCKED - I know he was heavily emotional, (licking at the streamers like they were snowflakes was a little much though), but man...out of tune much?
That is all :)

"weight" just a minute!

This pretty, young girl won a radio contest to participate in the AI audience.
She was banned from the front row....
...........
...because she was....
"too big".
I'm purely, utterly, and absolutely appalled, and disgusted.
Sadly, society as a whole has made it so that one's size dictates their 'worth' or their 'well-being'; or, what 'we want to look at', or 'what we want to be'. And it's wrong. So very wrong. Growing up a little fluffier than the average gal, I know the heartache, humiliation, and torture society can place on a person for being overweight. And it's about damn time we break the silence and say collectively that this IS NOT RIGHT. C'mon, ya'll, get on up here on my soapbox and join me, would you!??

Lucky 13?
I haven't been able to tune into much of this season's preliminary American Idol episodes. I think the beginning stages can be comedic, but I don't clear my calendar to watch it. I try to concentrate more once they get the gang down to the Top 10, and at that point I may even blog about it. I have no idea which contestant made Jennifer Lopez and the rest of North America cry to see let go, and the only contestant that I remember from the initial shows is the big tall guy with Tourettes that can wail like nobody's business.
Tuesday night, there wasn't anything else on, so I tuned in to the Top 12 guys. And after seeing Jovany, I almost opted to turn the TV off and go get a book to read. However, I did keep on watching (because I was snuggly under my cozy throw and can blame sheer laziness over being actually entertained). However, truth be told, I was actually entertained within the last 1/2 hr or so. My socks were blown off by the following contestants: Paul McDonald & Casey Abrams. An honorable mention goes to Brett Loewenstern because he's unique, and can sing, and to Scotty McCreery because even though I abhor country music, he hits the nail on the head of it. James Durban can wail, yes, but I am not sure if he'll be able to mould himself into the other genres that he'll be asked to cover to allow him to last past the first few weeks after the Top 10 have been decided upon (he, and the others I've mentioned are destined to be within the Top 10, though imo).
I missed the girls' singing on Wednesday night too, on account of Survivor - but I did catch the final half hour. After seeing the recap of the entire show, I really don't think I missed much, and of what I did see, I can say that Lauren, Haley, Pia and Thia should go far. And, since I didn't see the results show last night either, I caught a tiny recap on the AI website to see that the majority of my picks made it through (too bad about Brett, though). High stakes, maybe? Having it ended with 3 wildcards for a Top 13, instead of 10? Should be a good singing competition.
What about you? Are you watching? Who are your favourites?
